| Named after great Australian explorer Ludwig Leichhardt, this inner-west Sydney suburb, it seems, retained style and charm of the era. Today it is a stylish district full of cafes and restaurants, luxury European style retail stores and is a recognized domain of Sydney Italian community. Some of the landmarks are Leichhardt Town Hall, built in 1888, and The Forum – a modern residential complex with dining and retail facilities on the ground floor. |

I grew up in Leichhardt and moved away from it as soon as I was old enough to. I don`t know why it had to be dubbed mini Italy as Ludwig Leichhardt was GERMAN! I can`t stand having to go through Norton St. It`s too busy and I can`t understand what most people are babbling on about. I`m Australian, I live in Australia and I speak English. If you live here you should speak English too. IMHO |

Leichhardt is not what it use to be. back in the 90`s to approx. 1999 it was the place to be in the inner west. I have recently visited Norton Street and was sadened on how much it has changed the Italian feel and atmosphere has gone. |

I visited Leichhardt last week while on holidays in Sydney and i`ve been cursing myself for not visiting earlier and spending more time there...i walked through the Italian village and was mesmerized, the feeling i got was just warm and so Tuscany then i stumbled pass the tuscany bar not too far away, and the homes OMG!....i`m back home and it`s the only thing i`m babbling about...it was the little Italy that i don`t ever think i will be able to visit in my lifetime. Love it love it love it!! |
