| Named after great Australian explorer Ludwig Leichhardt, this inner-west Sydney suburb, it seems, retained style and charm of the era. Today it is a stylish district full of cafes and restaurants, luxury European style retail stores and is a recognized domain of Sydney Italian community. Some of the landmarks are Leichhardt Town Hall, built in 1888, and The Forum – a modern residential complex with dining and retail facilities on the ground floor. |

Born and bred over the road in Petersham. Went to Leichhardt Primary 1951/1954. Whilst the Police Boys Club in now the Casa D`Italia and Charlie Barretts snooker room next door is a cafe and other houses and shops have vanished it is a joy to walk Norton Street. My favoutite is having a coffee in the Cafe Sport, the original Italian Coffee Shop in Norton Street. Shame the juke box is gone though. Love it and would recommend it to anybody. If too dear just enjoy the place and buy a pie somewhere else. |
