| The oldest Gothic-style house-museum in Australia (1803 onwards). Formerly home of William Charles Wentworth and his family, it retained the look and feel of that time including authentic interiors and gardens. Whenever you are there, also visit Nielsen Park and Shark Beach. |

Captain John Piper was my grandmothers grandfather! I love going to the house to pretend that I have some ownership! Pleased that it is so well maintained and is open for public viewing. Beautiful. Perhaps one day I`ll meet one of my long lost cousins (ha). |

Will always remember our visit(from NS,Canada) to Vauclause House-Oct.15,2002. We sipped lapsang souchang (a strange tea that tasted like smoky bark)at the tea house accompanied by scones, loaded with raspberry jam and whipped cream .Our tour of the House proper was conducted by a physiotherapist who volunteers and obviously loves her duties. We remember her story about the beautiful beaded pin cushion in the master bedroom-the master of the house on New Year`s Day gave his wife the money to buy the year`s supply of pins and needles-hence the term today "pin money". A quiet break in a hectic week tour of Sydney. |

In response to Ed, as far as i can go back, Captain John Piper bought Vaucluse House in 1812 which was followed by William Charles Wentworth in 1827. Hope that helps.
Isnt the estate a beauty!

wentworth was a famous occupant but he purchased it for some 1500 pounds. Who built it and owned it before wentworth? |

We went there last night around 2am.
We went inside and walk around the house and the yard.
Believe or not, one of us got possessed by Roger`s spirit.
Can anyone help?
