| Symphony in the Domain and Jazz in the Domain are free events of the Sydney Festival, held yearly in January. Virtually thousands of spectators enjoy these open-air concerts with a picnic and a bottle of wine. The crowds are overpowering though, comparable only to the ones attending the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. |

I was in the Royal Navy in 1945 I was living in the dock sheds at Woolloomooloo it was then known as HMS Woolloomooloo,we were moved to the Domain where we lived in army huts, it was known as HMS Alert, the skipper was Anna Neagles brother Commander Terry Robertson I was his driver, He had a tent on the hill on the Domain and a flat in Maclay street Kings Cross. Also on the Domain was a building called the british centre ,it was built by the Jews of New South Wales and cost a quarter of a million pounds,It had a concert hall and all sorts of things going on, including free meals for British service men. I had my cap autograghed by Gracie Fields at a concert.I had my twenty first birthday at mr and mrs Flemmings house at sixteen Jelicoe avenue Randwick on the day that the second atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, they gave me the champagne they had been saving for there daughter Beryl,s twenty first.it only goes to show that the aussies are the kindest people in the world. On VJ day there was a big concert on the Domain with thousands of people there, afterwards I and an aussie airman walked over the Sydney Harbour Bridge to North Sydney to a friends house where we had a party. |

I went to a few of these live events in the Domain in January 2002, they are great, excellent atmosphere, everyone is very friendly. Get there really early, take a picnic, a few bottles of wine and a blanket to sit on, you`ll have a great evening! |
