| Named after London Hyde Park, this huge and beautiful green lawn in the middle of the City, at some point used as a military training ground, cricket pitch and a racecourse, is now favorite lunch munching place of City working tribes. The landmarks include Archibald Fountain (1932), statue of Captain Cook, Busby’s Bore, the Emden Gun and an ANZAC War Memorial. |

I love Hyde Park. Set in the great English tradition this park is a work of art. Its a little green oasis in the middle of the city. I plan to make sure my first date with a girl that I`m keen on, involves a trip through this great Sydney Icon. |

One of the delights of a visit to Sydney is to walk through Hyde Park. Plates on an occasional tree show the botanical name. The main walk through the centre of the park is especially beautiful from the arching branches of the huge fig trees. There was no plate on any tree and it was hard to find anyone who knew the variety. Fortunately a supervisor from the City Council confidently nominated them as Hill`s Figs and pointed out the difference between the Hill`s and Port Jackson trees. Plates on some trees about their variety and history would be of interest to many who visit the park. |
