Bays/Beaches: Manly Beach
address  MANLY 2095
parking free offstreet; street metered
One of Sydney’s most attractive and diverse places, it is part of a former holiday and resort spot and still retains this fresh atmosphere. Catering for all tastes and activities, it is just a few minutes from the City by JetCat ferry, although car or bus will take much longer due to the traffic, so common on Military Rd. Diverse activities include the Oceanworld aquarium, Manly Art Gallery, fine dining and coffee, assorted beaches for every taste including surfing and scuba diving, and a nice park near Shelly beach.

Stayed in West Esplanade and Stuart Street for six months, had the time of my life. Wake up in the morning, views of the sea and the Manly ferry, trip to the city on the ferry, then back home, surfing on the fab manly beach, mountain biking around Manly dam, then scuba at the weekend at Shelly beach, awesome beach, stunning Wobbegongs and Bronze whalers. If you get the chance, come and stay, best place ever.

My wife and I are divers and we love this area. We often dive at Fairy Bower and Shelly Beach. Shelly is a great night dive with lots of Port Jackson and Wobbegong sharks, octopus, squid etc and always the friendly Blue Groupers. There have also been a few sightings of Dusky Whaler sharks in thease areas lately, but don`t be alarmed, none of these will harm swimmers.

I`m quite lucky as I get to visit Manly on a regular basis on my work trips. My favorite part of the area is the first section of the Manly scenic walk, which winds its way from Manly Cove to Reef beach on the other side of peninsula. It is made up of beautiful harbour views, quiet sandy beaches...and some stunning looking houses overlooking the water!!

Ah..Manly. I have traveled the world on business and consider Manly as one of the few places where I could easily call home. I always stayed at a hotel across the street from the beach. At night, I would leave the sliding glass door open slightly to allow the gentle breezes to enter the room, along with the soft sounds of the surf. No need to ever count sheep! Certainly, a world away from the hustle and bustle of New York City! I envy anyone who can say they grew up in this magical place. Stay as lovely as you are!
