Bays/Beaches: Clovelly Beach
address  RANDWICK 2031
telephone 9399 0931 (Randwick Council)
parking free offstreet; pay station; street metered
This very unusually shaped unique little beach in the Eastern suburbs stretches deeply inwards the shoreline. This makes a very calm and shallow lagoon, suitable for swimming with little children. If this is too rough, then there is a pool in the cemented pavement alongside. Heading into the sea you will find scenic rocks and deeper waters for more serious swimmers. A great advantage of any public place – large parking area makes it one of our favorite destinations for a day out or a party. Also a popular fishing, snorkeling and scuba diving place.

HI I am an Australian who now lives in Christchurch New Zealand and i have been here since 1994. Back in 1941 when i was born the 2nd world war was at full bore. and the USA troops helped to build the Promenade either side of the bay, the bay was closed off with barb wire at the entrance to stop any Japanesn navy getting into the bay. i lived at 145 Boundry Street Clovelly and it was a grand old home but that was pulled down and the worst block of flats put up. in my younger years in just 5 houses ours and Ocean street there were 40 kids to play with . we had a family of 7. 6 girls and 1 male, we all swam every day of our young lives. Clovelly Bay was our play ground.we did not have a bus that went past our door we had to walk down to the bay on the other side to catch the Tram or walk over to Bronte. and it was nothing for us to walk to Watsons Bay for a Sunday walk all the kids and the Mums the whole 4 of them. If you would like to know More please just email me i would love to hear from you. take care

Clovelly is a hidden treasure and the people there are so friendly. I can`t agree with a previous writer about Seasalt Cafe, I had a wonderful meal and the staff were so happy and efficent, 9 out of 10 for me!

i visited clovelly in august 2006 and went to the most fantastic little restaurant right by the side of the pool. i had the most amazing brunch there then took a walk down by the sea, it was magical as coming from a very cold scotland to see the views and feel the sun on my face was a memory that will last a lifetime. i often go onto this sight just to look at the photos of clovelly and remember my summer in oz. i went to bondi beach to but nothing will ever beat clovelly

Darryl from Clovelly wrote about Clovelly Beach on 14-Aug-2006:
I have to agree with the earlier comments; Clovelly has much to offer and is unique among Sydney`s beaches. I also have to agree with Phil from Blackball and others; Seasalt Cafe is appalling. The quality of service and food is the worst of any cafe in the eastern suburbs beaches. You can`t help but think that they are happy to survive off unwitting one-time tourists rather than repeat customers. It is certainly worth the 5 minute walk to Specc or Finks - it takes so long to be served at Seasalt, it will work out to be faster anyway.
