Austrtalia's most known beach and an icon. It's huge and so not as cosy as some other beaches in the area, but still very popular, especialy among backpackers for its surf and life style. Take a walk along the promenade, have a snack in a cafe on Campbell Parade, bath in the saltwater pool in the rocks or resist crushing waves in the surf (between the flags only!). Other landmarks include Bondi Pavilion, Bondi Hotel, The Hakoah club and scenic walkway down south to Tamarama beach.

Having lived in Sydney all my life, I can say without a doubt that Bondi is nothing special. If you`re coming here as a tourist and want a good Sydney beach, unless you like a beach culture that is full of drunk backpackers, skip Bondi and take a longer trip to one of the Northern beaches, Central Coast or down to the south coast, within an hour or so of Sydney. Palm or Whale on the Northern Beaches, Austinmer on the South Coast (accessible by train too) or Freshwater are much nicer beaches, cleaner and less crowded too.

I flew out to Sydney in Dec 03 to meet my mates staying in Bondi. We were staying near the icebergs end and loved going to the Hotel Bondi and Noahs backpackers. It was a great atmosphere to sit in one of the many bars overlooking the beach drinking wine - we always had good service and great food! The bus service was excellent as well.

Hi I lived in Bondi for 25 years, just wanted to drop a line to see weather there`s any old locals that read this site.Bondi was the place don`t know about Joe Dempsey [above] saying that the Royal was full of locals [never].More like full of maori`s not local characters. We worked surfed played football and now and then got the odd bushpig that was bondi the good old days.To many backpackers now days its changed alot like everything else, thay where good days. There wasn`t anything it didn`t have.We had everything and i mean everything.Bondi use to consist of a few hundred locals and that was bondi

I went to Sydney in October 2000 and ended up living in Bondi for nearly two years. I fell in love with the place and didn`t want to leave... Sure, you get alot of people in the summer, and the usual Aussie jibes about English people (You get used to it!)... but the whole atmosphere is so easy going... The Beach Road Hotel (Regis) is definatly the best place for a good night out... very lively! I would be back there tomorrow if i could... Will be going there for holiday in November this year.
